1 "Fount", as he was referred to, was a Presbyterian minister, reportedly one of the first in Putnam County. He retired to Center Hill, FL, a small, sleepy town in central Florida, the heart of citrus and vegetable farming. City Cemetery, where he is buried, is nestled under trees dripping with Spanish moss. Smith, William Fountain (I18)

2 "Mammy", as she was known to her grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren was one of the spryest grandmothers around well into her seventies. She would frequently "wrestle" with grandchildren and could hold her own (or frequently better if you tried to get too rough). Mammy Buck's house was always the gathering place for her children and their offspring, and it was not unusual to see 10-15 family members, especially on a summer night when the kids could run around outside and play. Mammy never scolded anyone for being too noisy, but she still commanded respect and was someone you listened to when she got that serious tone in her voice.

Mammy's house was also the site of nightly "Rook" games that usually lasted until well past midnight throughout the summer. Various family members cycled through, but Mammy and her daughter, Nettie, were always at the table.
Gass, Mittie Lee (I15)

3 (From Shirlianne and Linda): Doesn't everyone remember Aunt Pearl with her snow white hair, asthma spray, and cigarettes? As long as they could travel, Aunt Pearl and Uncle Frank Sadler, her second husband, would make the train trip from Nashville to Algood several times a year for a week's stay with Mammy.

Aunt Pearl is buried in gravesite #38 alongside Uncle Billy.
Sadler, Pearl Buck (I1190)

4 (Medical):Charlie's emphysema was likely the result of many years inhaling sawdust and other irritants encountered during his many years as a carpenter. He never smoked. Wilmoth, Charlie Bartlett (I11)

5 (Medical):Dewey died officially from urea poisoning which was the result of a 2-3 year battle with colon and prostate cancer. Wilmoth, Dewey Eston (I5)

6 (Medical):Ovie died peacefully in her sleep. Smith, Ovie Magdaline (I12)

7 (Note from Shirlianne and Linda) During the early years of her research, Juanita asked Shirlianne and me to help purchase markers for the unmarked graves in the Buck Plot. These graves were marked with stones, but no names were on any of them. Aunt Nettie knew exactly who was buried in each of those graves, but Juanita knew that once she was gone, it would only be a matter of time until the names would be forgotten. The monument of gravesite #46 was placed as a memorial to Mary Caroline Ford but does not contain her remains. Mary Caroline was buried in an unmarked grave at a cemetery in Bloomington Springs. Gravesite #46 is empty! This may seem a strange thing for us to have done, but due to the animosity between Pappy Buck and his stepmother, and out of respect for the mother he never knew, Aunt Nettie wanted a marker placed there. In case you're curious, Sara Frances Carr is buried on High Island, an island on Lake Michigan, owned by the House of David in Benton Harbor, MI. Ford, Mary Caroline (I100)
